When the Religious Pass

Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 15-16 and Luke 10:25-42

Others:

If you want an older song based on this passage, here's one from Keith Green called 'On the Road to Jericho'

And there's a more recent song that comes from non-Christian artist, the Mountain Goats, a song called 1 Samuel 15:23.

Jonathan and his Armor Bearer

Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 13-14 and Luke 10:1-24

Today's video is for the youngins. It's a silly, youth-targeted retelling of Jonathan and his armor bearer. It was put together by the youth ministry team at LifeKids.tv

Luke 9 -- Is this the Jesus we're following?

Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 10-12 and Luke 9:37-62

A dramatic reading of our passage from Luke:

Hand to Plough from InterVarsity twentyonehundred on Vimeo.

But if you have a half hour then here's the video I'd really encourage you to watch. It's a powerful talk (given at the same conference) about the cost of following Jesus:

Long Live the King! Live Love and Prosper!

Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 7-9 and Luke 9:18-36

In our Luke passage today we see the Transfiguration. This painting is by Raphael:

Leonard Nimoy (who played Spock in Star Trek) died earlier this year. Did you know he also played Samuel in a movie about King David?

Others:

The hymn 'Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing' connects back to 1 Samuel 7. Here's a modern retelling by what the original psalmist went through: you can find it here.

On a Nice Spring Day

Today's Reading: 1 Samuel 4-6 and Luke 9:1-17

The video above is so pleasant. :-D With the sun shining down, the wind blowing those pages of the Bible, and a guy drawing some art in crayon. I love the way the artist, Tom Batty, is bringing passages of Scripture to the youtube audience.

Happy Easter! Just for fun, Jesus Died for His Peeps:

Have the Bibledex overviews of each book been helpful? Today we start 1 Samuel so click here if you'd like to see another.

For the Luke passage I'm sharing a poem that is sung operatically: von Rueden/DeLee: Hope and a Hem (Luke 8)

What Makes Good Friday Good?

Today's Reading: Judges 19-21 and Luke 7:31-50

Repentance and forgiveness. Sorrow that leads to joy. With God, every Good Friday leads to an Easter. So hold on. Wherever you're at in life, hold on, because God promises that everything is going to be okay.

Samson Part II

Today's Reading: Judges 16-18 and Luke 7:1-30

The clip above is from The Bible miniseries. Samson's hair was a symbol of the vow he and his parents had made to God. The loss of his hair was symbolic of his breaking of the vow. If you were making a movie on the Bible, how would you represent Samson?

For the New Testament passage here's a video by the Mormon Channel of Jesus raising the widow's son from the dead.

Samson Went Back to Bed

Today's Reading: Judges 13-15 and Luke 6:27-49

The song above is by Regina Spektor and is inspired by the biblical story of Samson and Delilah. Regina has a beautiful voice and most of her songs have a narrative quality to them.
